 The Aim of the Program


The aim of the program is to offer master’s level education in the area of Exercise and Sport Psychology and to educate students to a professional level.

Students will acquire the necessary knowledge and competencies that will enable them to understand human behavior in exercise and sport contexts and to apply effectively their knowledge to enhance physical activity, health, well-being, and high performance in the areas of public health and sports.

Sport and exercise psychology seeks to understand psychological factors that occur in sports, physical activity and exercise. The focus is on behavior, emotions and cognitions of persons involved in sport and exercise settings, e.g. exercise participants, athletes, coaches, teachers, therapists, parents, spectators, officials etc. Sport and exercise psychology draws upon the scientific fields of psychology, sport, education and health sciences.

Vice President of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP) was Professor Athanasios Papaioannou, Director of the Program until 2017. Since 2019 is the tresurer of FEPSAC.

Duration of studies


The minimum duration of studies for the MSc title is set to 2 years of full-time study (120 ECTS), taught completely in English.

Free meals and dinners are offered at the Department’s restaurant.


 Tuition fees


The total amount of tuition fees is 4.000 €. 


Distance from the City 


From the city to the department: 10 min by bike , offered for free by the department, 8 min by bus and 5 min by taxi


Trikala city


The Prefecture's capital is a beautiful city built on the location of ancient Trikki (according to mythology the nymph Trikki was the daughter of Pinios). Asklipios, the most important doctor of antiquity, originated from here. The Lithaios River flows through the city which is distinguished by historical Monuments, excellent urban planning, spacious squares, parks and pedestrian streets. It is located at a distance of 331 km NW of Athens and 215 km SW of Thessaloniki. For more info please click here.

Dear prospective postgraduate student,
The period of applications to the European Master Program in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Thessaly is now open until 31 May. This is a 2-year program at the University of Thessaly on Sport and Exercise Psychology. The University of Thessaly will award double degree in collaboration with the University of Jyvaskyla, to students who will complete successfully a minimum of 30 ECTS (one semester) at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland.  Students may also chose to complete part of their studies in other European universities collaborating with the University of Thessaly in the framework of the European Erasmus+ program. 

If you are interested in applying to this program please send us:

Applicants will be also invited to participate in an online interview in the 2nd or 3rd week of June.

International or European applicants submitting their application earlier than 15th May will receive feedback from us.  This might help them to present better themselves in the interview process or to provide supplementary documents if required.
