Nikos DIGELIDIS, Associate Professor
Staff member of the Department of PE & Sport Science in University of Thessaly since 2002. Nikos received his PhD and MSc in Democritus University of Thrace and his BSc in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has 8 years teaching experience as PE instructor in the elementary and secondary level. Also, 5 years coaching volleyball teams and ex-volleyball player. He has published 5 books for school PE, alone or together with colleagues (two of them are the official public books for PE in Greece), one chapter in an international book and more than 40 publications in peer reviewed national and international journals. He has more than 130 publications in national and international congress proceedings while his work has been cited more than 230 times. He is a member of the editorial board in 4 journals and reviewer for more than 18 national and international scientific journals. He is member of several professional organizations like the Greek Society of Sport Psychology, the Hellenic Academy of Physical Education the European Federation for Sport and Exercise Psychology (FEPSAC) and the International Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (AIESEP). Supervising student-teachers’ internships since 1999, he still spends one day per week at school settings. His main teaching work at the undergraduate level is focused on teaching methods in PE, curriculum models in PE and curriculum design and at the graduate level is focused on teaching PE, school evaluation and physical activity and health programs design. He has served in several important committees in his department; among them, as member of the departmental committee for the program of study. His contribution in the University goes further as he is serving as Erasmus Departmental Coordinator and member of the Institutional Committee of International Affairs since 2002. At the postgraduate level his administrative tasks include master thesis coordinator at the EMSEP program (European Master Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology) which is held within the Erasmus-Mundus framework. Main research interests: learning environments in PE, enhancing motivational climate in PE settings, conducting short-term or long-term school interventions, teaching styles and teacher education. He is married and has three children. His main hobbies are writing and reading, bicycling and swimming.
